In our second episode we’re yarning up with Cook Island Māori woman Charleen Marsters from the northern island of Tongareva. She has been part of the Breaking Silent Codes movement since the Redfern gathering in 2018 and NYC in 2020.
Charleen weaves together creative practice, social justice, truth-telling and lived wisdom___ standing with courage alongside First Nations women across the Pasifika.
EP03. ALLIRAH FISHER + MYA BROWN
In our third episode we’re yarning up with Allirah Fisher and Mya Brown.
A dynamic Ewamian, Cobble Cobble and South Sea Islander woman. Artist, dancer, and community transformer, she uses her passion to empower First Nations communities.
A proud Dunghutti, Anaiwan and Kamilaroi woman, Mya is the Admin Officer for Ya’djin Womens Collective, supporting significant community initiatives. With a deep passion for breaking silence against domestic violence and sexual assault, Mya is committed to creating safe spaces and strong support systems for women and families.
EP04. CHANTAY LINK
In our fourth episode we’re yarning up with Gooreng Gooreng, Kabi Kabi and South Sea Islander woman Aunty Chantay Link. A proud Brisbane Blak and founding member of Ya’djin Womens Collective, Aunty Chantay is passionate about violent free communities and generating Blak joy.
Heavily involved in First Nations-led healing at a grass-roots level, Aunty Chantay supports the empowerment of women as leaders in the community to bring forth knowledge and healing for the next generations.
EP05. VIKA BETE LUMUNI
In our fifth episode we’re yarning up with Vika Bete Lumuni, a prominent Fijian advocate and Project Manager at Empower Pacific and the Australian Humanitarian Program.
Known for her work safeguarding children and breaking silence, Vika is a strong voice against domestic violence. She challenges cultural norms that silence abuse, helping build resilient communities that empower women.
EP06. MAKARETA KL
In our sixth episode we’re yarning up with Maori woman Makareta KL. Mediumed between the worlds of her Ancestors in both Traditional and Contemporary ways, she navigates her work through her interconnections with Family, Tribe and the communities she constellates in.
A weaver of fibre, a former of clay and narrator with paint and pen, Makareta shares stories of strength and resistance, planted deeply in her cultural roots.
